Donnell made his television debut by playing Mike Ruskin in the television series Pan Am. In 2012, Donnell was cast as Tommy Merlyn in television series Arrow, however, he left the series after season one as his character gets killed off, but made occasional appearances in later seasons. Donnell also portrayed Tommy’s Earth-X counterpart in the crossover special, and Human Target posing as his character late in season six. Donnell returned as a guest for the series’ eighth and final season.
