Zappa was born in Brescia, Italy. His professional career began as a player in the youth team of the his local Lombardy team Lumezzane. In 2011 the club transferred him to AlbinoLeffe which was also in the youth division. He made an exchange with Portuguese club S.C. Beira-Mar, before returning to Italy just an year later, signing with Sassuolo for a sum of $220,000. After his performance for the youth teams and the current Serie A champions Juventus made an approach to Zappa and initially signed the player on a loan of six months in February of 2015. Zappa was banned for 45 consecutive days during the year 2015 because of the erratic transfers to Portugal. AlbinoLeffe also filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport in order to collect a portion of the fee for transfer.

Juventus hired Zappa for loan on February of 2015 in exchange for a loan amount of EUR200,000. Zappa amazed coach Fabio Grosso, and was the left-back in the team’s starting lineup for the Primavera team, which played at the Campionato Nazionale Primavera, 2015-16 UEFA Youth League, Supercoppa Primavera and Torneo di Viareggio. In June of 2015, Juventus agreed to sign Zappa in a binding agreement with an additional cost that was EUR1.5 million.

On 31 January 2019 he joined Novara on loan until the end of the 2018–19 season.
