After spending the initial three seasons in Ternana Calcio in the second and third tiers in Italian football, prior to the 1982/83 season, he got numerous offers from Serie A teams, including A.C. Milan. He decided to go with A.S. Roma. In the season that he played, he made 13 appearances as a second in line for Falcao, Herbert Prohaska and Carlo Ancelotti. He was dubbed Falcao’s heir because of certain similarities in the way of playing. But, after winning the championship the team was transferred to Perugia Calcio and never played at the highest levels in Italy in the future, not meeting the extravagant expectations.
