Clark Daniel Gaines (born February 1st 1954) is an ex- American football running back who played in the National Football League (NFL). He was also a head coach within the United States Football League (USFL). He was a player in The New York Jets and the Kansas City Chiefs over the span over the course of seven years in his NFL career. Gaines played as the running back and Special Teams coach of the New Jersey Generals of the USFL.

On the 21st of September of the year 1980. Gaines set a Jets record for catches with 17 in a single match with the San Francisco 49ers, a record for the franchise that is still in place. Gaines has a current position of third and the top running back among running backs, in NFL records for the number of receptions per game. Gaines was the first undrafted running back to surpass 500 yards rushing in his rookie, and also one of six players in NFL history to achieve this.

Gaines’s jersey is retired at Elbert County Comprehensive High School. In 2009, he received the Elbert County Native Citizen Award by the Elbert County Chamber of Commerce.
