Stelling is a native of Daytona Beach, Florida, and has also been a resident of Colorado, Washington, Massachusetts as well as North Carolina. Stelling has put out five recordings: Songs of Praise and Scorn (2012), False Cities (2013), Labor Against Waste (2015), Itinerant Arias (2017) and Best of Luck (2020). He has performed extensively throughout across the United States and Europe. This includes performances during The Newport Folk Festival (2015, 2017). Christopher Paul Stelling has been included in the NPR Music series Tiny Desk Concert as well as All Songs Considered.

Three albums later, with intimate acoustic songs, Itinerant Arias found Christopher Paul Stelling performing with an all-band for the first time. The shift in sound towards a more traditional, folk-influenced sound enhanced Stelling’s powerful lyrics and added the depth of his passionate vocals. In the glowing assessment, PopMatters wrote of Itinerant Arias, “over the course of four albums Stelling has been working to perfect the sound of his perception of the world as complex as it is. With Itinerant Arias Stelling makes an opportune and bold move into the role of a bandleader and master historian of our time.” The album name, Stelling said he chose Itinerant Arias due to the fact that “these songs share the same origins, but no sense of location. As if they were found objects, heard stories, lost tunes… that have no true home, but all coming from the same sound.” The album Itinerant Arias came out on May 5, 2017 via AntiRecords. In celebration of the album’s release, Christopher Paul Stelling provided the track-by-track breakdown for Itinerant Arias in the NPR show All Songs Considered.

Stelling’s debut album, which was released by self on February 21st of 2012.
