Christopher Mutsvangwa is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on May 24, 1955 in Harare, Zimbabwe. Christopher Hatikure Mutsvangwa was born on the 24th of May, 1955 on the 24th of May 1955 at Salisbury Central Hospital in Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia (now Harare). His early years were spent in Mbare, a Salisbury neighborhood of Mbare before moving back to his home town close to Chief Nyamweda, Mashonaland Central. He completed his primary education at the Marirangwe and Masawi schools. He started his secondary education in Kutama College before completing his A-levels in St Augustine’s High School in Penhalonga .

As of 1991, Mutsvangwa was named Director-General for the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation. In 1994, he resigned and returned into the business sector, working as an executive within the telecoms sector. After returning to politics in 2000 when he got elected ZANU-PF Party Secretary for Harare Province. In 2002, he was appointed to the post of Zimbabwean ambassador to China to help deepen the country’s foreign policy shift towards the West toward China. He was in office for four years, until and left in the aforementioned “cloud of controversy” due to political conflict.

In March 2016 he was suspended from ZANU-PF for 3 years for “gross misconduct and disloyalty” and fanning factionalism in the party. He has been accused of being a key figure in the 2017 Zimbabwean coup d’etat.

An ally of ousted Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Mutsvangwa praised Army General Constantino Chiwenga for “a bloodless correction of gross abuse of power” and hoped that the army would restore a “genuine democracy” and Zimbabwe as a “modern model nation” following the 2017 coup d’état. Mutsvangwa was said to be involved in negotiations for a transitional government with Mnangagwa and Morgan Tsvangirai.

Mutsvangwa was a public figure as a diplomat and served in posts within Brussels for the European Union and New York to the United Nations under Stan Mudenge. He was in 1989 when he was a member of the UN observer group that was responsible for monitoring Namibia’s first general elections that were won by SWAPO which was led by Sam Nujoma. Mutsvangwa was dismissed from diplomatic service in the year 1990.

Christopher Hatikure Mutsvangwa (born 24 May 1955) is a Zimbabwean politician diplomat, businessman and diplomat. An ex-combatant of the Rhodesian Bush War, Mutsvangwa was a member of as the head of the independent government Zimbabwe as well as Zimbabwe’s ZANU-PF political party, in a variety of positions, including director-general of the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, Ambassador to China as well as the Head of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association and the Veterans Welfare Minister.

Mutsvangwa was among the seven students of African descent selected to be admitted into the Faculty of Law of the then University of Rhodesia in 1975 However, he resigned shortly afterwards for ZIPRA at Mozambique. Later, he finished his degree at the United States, receiving a BS in Management and Information Systems from Boston University in 1984 and an MBA from St. John’s University in 1990.

In 2012 he was appointed Chairman of the Mineral Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe. In the 2013 elections he was returned as MP for Norton. He was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and then the first Minister for Welfare Services for War Veterans, War Collaborators, Former Political Detainees and Restrictees. Following his expulsion from ZANU-PF he was recalled from Parliament.
