He kicked off in the 2006 Olympic season by winning five gold medals in a row in the European and America’s Cup races. Hedquist barely missed qualifying to compete in his participation in the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin as he did not participate in his final World Cup Olympic qualifier in Germany He was also named an alternate for the team for 2006. The Olympic selection made by the U.S. skeleton federation came in the wake of a number of controversy, including the suspension for doping by Teammate Zach Lund, and firing of the head coach following accusations of harassment by sexual nature. In the course of the competition, Hedquist took on the head coaching post to his fellow Irish participant David Connolly and South African Tyler Botha, who raced to the 20th and 21st places respectively.
Since 2006, he’s been working regularly with his country U.S. on the World Cup tour. The 2006/2007 season ended seventh overall with World Cup points. He took part at his very initial FIBT World Championships in 2007 in St. Moritz, Switzerland which he won the 20th place.

Chris first began skating on ice in his sport of luge when he was 12 but he resigned to pursue his freestyle ski pursuits. He switched completely to the skeleton (sport) at the age of 12 after its introduction to the Olympic program. In his debut season, he was awarded an Olympic bronze medal in the U.S. National Championships, and was also the top U.S. finisher at the Junior World Championships 2003 in Konigssee. He finished fourth.
