Christopher John “Chris” Aworth (born 19 February 1953) is a former cricketer from Surrey as well as Cambridge University. A left-handed batsman as well as a left-arm spin-bowler born at Wimbledon, Aworth played for Surrey’s Second XI from 1971 before being a part of Cambridge with the MCC in 1972. He made his debut in the first class for the team in the match against Warwickshire on the 23rd of July in 1973. In July 1974, he got chosen as Surrey’s First XI and debuted against Lancashire. He played in twenty-eight County Championship matches for Surrey and also play 18 one-day matches as part of the John Player League and Benson and Hedges Cup. He scored 67 points in the semi-finals of the 1976 Benson & Hedges Cup. For Cambridge He played 31 times over the course of his career. Through his first-class playing career, he scored 2,552 runs , including three centuries. The end of his professional career came in 1976 when he played in which he played his fellow players from the British Army.

He managed just 161 runs in seven games but he didn’t participate in Surrey’s quest to take home the Benson and Hedges Cup until the semi-finals stage. He did however score the highest score of his career in one day at 67 against Kent in the semi-final. Kent won but it was due to a century scored by Mike Denness. In the game that lasted four days the half-century was scored against a visiting West Indies cricket team later in the month. He crossed 2,500 first-class run against Essex on the 3rd of July however, he did not replicate his performances from the previous season. He managed just 349 in ten games at 20.52. He played his last first-class match in the league on July 10 against Kent. He was recalled in the Second XI to face the Army in August. He scored 52 points.

In 1973 Aworth’s father John died. The year began with the 1973 cricket season , Aworth was a student at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge from Tiffin School, he was chosen as a member of his First XI cricket team to participate in the University matches. The first match was Warwickshire on the 21st of April. At three He scored 25 and 10. He played eleven University matches in the course of the season with 379 runs, which was 18.95 with a maximum of 45. The season began in April 1974. began with University games with Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire and Nottinghamshire as along with the three Benson and Hedges matches. The final game was against Surrey and saw Aworth having scored three. He scored the score of 97 in Warwickshire on May 4, and scored 56 in both Gloucestershire on May 8 and Kent on June 5. The team also had 77 points against his touring Indian cricket squad. These scores resulted in an invitation to join in the First XI for Surrey in the middle of July.
