In September of 2016, Christoph Mueller joined Emirates Group as the Chief and Digital and Innovation Officer and resigned on February 7, 2019.

Since 2009 Mueller became CEO of Irish carrier Aer Lingus where he repositioned the business that was losing money as a service carrier to compete with lower-cost alternatives such as Ryanair. Mueller has successfully expanded Aer Lingus’ transatlantic operations by repositioning the company as a more services-oriented company. While in Ireland Mueller was appointed to the board of management of Tourism Ireland and as chairman of An Post. He departed Ireland to take over the position of CEO in Malaysia Airlines; a company that was in turmoil following two air accidents that resulted in that of the loss of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 and the attack on Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, and the threat of low-cost airlines like Air Asia. Mueller was hired by the airline after it was privatized. The airline then announced job reductions of 6000 which is roughly three-quarters of the workforce. In less than a year the airline announced a reshuffle, however Mueller quit the company, citing a change in personal circumstances.

After being certified in the field of accounting, Mueller was awarded his degree in the year 1988 at Cologne’s University of Cologne with an Diploma in Economics.
