Scelfo was born in Abbeville, Louisiana on September 30, 1963. He later moved to New Iberia, Louisiana, where he went to New Iberia Senior High. He attended the college of Northeast Louisiana University. He played football throughout high school and at college and was a three-year college letterwinner. In the college, he was the captain of the team. Scelfo received his bachelor’s in Northeast Louisiana in 1986 and obtained a master’s from the university in 1988.
Following the devastating hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans in August 2005 and the Tulane football team had to take on all of its games on the road, every game in a different location, which could have led in the team’s record of 2-9. Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron approached the Tulane assistant regarding players who were transferred after the storm. Scelfo claimed that Ole Miss of tampering and claimed:
Scelfo is married to wife Nancy née Caldwell, with whom he has a son and a daughter. His brother, Frank Scelfo, is currently the head coach at Southeastern Louisiana University. His nephew, Anthony Scelfo, played as a quarterback at Tulane. Scelfo’s son, Joseph, played center at the University of South Alabama from 2012 to 2016. Following Joseph’s junior year, he graduate transferred to NC State University for his final year. He signed as an undrafted free agent to the Houston Texans following the 2017 NFL Draft.
He later became the offensive line coach for the Charlotte 49ers and Houston Cougars. In 2019, he returned to the professional level as the offensive line coach and run-game coordinator for the Arizona Hotshots of the Alliance of American Football, followed by the DC Defenders of the XFL in 2020.
Tulane University in New Orleans hired Scelfo to succeed Tommy Bowden as its 36th coach in mid-season on the 7th of December the 7th of December, 1998. The only game that he coached during the season included the Liberty Bowl, where he was able to lead Tulane’s Green Wave to victory over Brigham Young. The team won the game, Tulane finished the season with a perfect record of 12-0 and won the Conference USA championship. The year 2002 was a great one for Tulane. Scelfo was the coach who led Tulane to the Hawai’i Bowl in 2002 in which they beat June Jones’ high-octane Hawaii Warriors. In 2002, the Green Wave surprised observers by getting an onside kick back on the opening play of the game. They they won the game 36-28. The win was enough to make Scelfo one of the few Tulane coach to ever have two bowl games won.

Christopher Joseph Scelfo (born September 30 1963) is a famous American professional football player. He was the most recent offensive line coach of the DC Defenders of the XFL. He was also the offensive line coach as well as the coach of games for the Arizona Hotshots of the Alliance of American Football as well as having previously worked in the same role for the Houston Cougars and Charlotte 49ers. He was previously head of tight ends with the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL). He was director of Tulane from 1998 to 2006. Tulane from 1998 until 2006, which included after Hurricane Katrina and was able to record an overall record of 37-57. Scelfo has the distinction of being only Tulane head coach who has had two wins in bowls. He has previously served as an assistant coach posts in Marshall as well as Georgia.
Scelfo started his coaching job as an assistant at River Oaks School. Then, he became a graduate assistant for his school from 1986 until 1987 and following that, he was a coach in the University of Oklahoma from 1988 until 1989. Then, he was offensive line coordinator for Marshall University from 1990 to 1995. He was also the offensive coordinator during his final three years at Marshall. Scelfo later spent three years with The University of Georgia as assistant offensive line coach and head coach.
After failing to compile a winning season since 2002, Tulane fired Scelfo on November 29, 2006. His final record at Tulane was 37–57. In January 2008, the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL hired Scelfo as its tight ends coach.
