Christopher John McCann (born 21 July 1987) is an Irish professional footballer who is a player at Oldham Athletic as a midfielder. He was a graduate of the youth program from Home Farm, McCann joined Burnley when he was a teenager and made his debut for the club in the year 2005. McCann went on to make over 200 appearances with Burnley before joining Wigan Athletic on a free transfer in the year 2013. He also picked up one award for his Republic of Ireland U19 team.

He began the 2006-07 season with the first-team squad but was relegated to the bench for substitutes after a few games , as he tried to prove his abilities to play at Championship level. However, injuries led to him being forced into the role of an emergency left-back, and he utilized these opportunities to establish his place in the first-team. In the 2008-09 season, McCann was linked with the possibility of a transfer to an Premier League club. McCann started his first Barclays Premier League season well but a nagging knee injury and subsequent operation to the cruciate after the match with Sunderland in the game at Turf Moor in September sidelined midfielder McCann till December 2009 most likely. In his second game back after injury suffered another injury, which ruled him out for the remainder period of this season.

On 26 June 2013, McCann agreed to join Wigan Athletic following the expiry of his contract with Burnley at the end of the month. He was reunited with former Burnley manager Owen Coyle.

On 2 August 2016, McCann joined Coventry City on loan until the start of the 2017 Major League Soccer campaign.

McCann was raised from Dublin, County Dublin. Transferred into Lancashire via home farm at the Irish team Home Farm, McCann progressed through the youth program at Burnley and was able to make his debut as a senior player during the 2005-06 season and was on the field for the first time as a substitute during the team’s 4-0 win over Coventry City on 13 August 2005.

He was first called up to the Republic of Ireland U21s for the matches against Montenegro and Bulgaria on 16 and 20 November 2007 for the 2009 European U21 Championship qualifiers. On the wake of his call-up Ireland U21 manager, Don Givens, stated that “Chris has been involved with Ireland at other age levels but this is his first call-up to the Under-21 panel. He is a good player and deserves a chance at this level”. He was selected in the squad for the 1–0 defeat to Montenegro in Podgorica. However, he had to withdraw due to an injury. This was unexpected news as he has played the week before against Preston North End after he had missed three games with a groin injury.
