In 2013, following the Penang State Election, Chris Lee was appointed as one of the 24 members of the former Penang Island Municipal Council, starting on July 8th. Lee was politically active in 2007 before deciding joining his local party, the Democratic Action Party (DAP). The party was initially formed as a volunteer but became more involved with the party as time passed. The year 2012 saw him was the Youth Chief of Bukit Bendera, the Party’s Youth Wing division of Bukit Bendera, as well as the Party’s Deputy Youth Chief in Penang.

Chris Lee Chun Kit (simplified Chinese: Li Jun Jie Traditional Chinese: Li Jun Jie Pinyin: Li Junjie ; Peh-oe-ji Li Chun-kiat, born 15 July, 1982) is a Malaysian politician and is a part of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) that is an element of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition. He is currently chosen State Assemblyman from Pulau Tikus within Penang. Chris was previously appointed a Councillor on Penang Island City Council. Penang Island City Council, having served for nearly five years between 2013 and 2018.
Lee was a student at St. Andrew’s Kindergarten and continued his elementary education in St. The Xavier’s Branch school. It was in the primary school that he made contact with the his future DAP leader and the current MEP for Bukit Bendera, Zairil Khir Johari. He later went into St. Xavier’s Institution for his secondary education. He graduated from secondary school in 1999. He later obtained the Advanced Diploma in Mass Communications at MDIS, Singapore before obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Nottingham-Trent University as part of an undergraduate program in the local area at Olympia College.
On 26 April 2018, prior to the state election that year, Chris Lee stepped down as a Councillor of the Penang Island City Council and was selected to contest the state constituency of Pulau Tikus, where he had spent his childhood years. Despite the three cornered tussle at the constituency, he prevailed in the election, winning by a margin of 9,245 votes.
