He was a pitcher and was a part of Major League Baseball, Nippon Professional Baseball and the Chinese Professional Baseball League.
The following month on May 12 in 2004 The Rockies signed him up again for a minor-league agreement and transferred his team to Triple-A. He had a great year as a member of Sky Sox. Sky Sox, leading the Pacific Coast League with 14 wins, even though he made 16 relief appearances and eight starts. His contract was signed with the Rockies on the 19th of August 2004. On the 22nd of August, 2004 the Rockies made him their first major league appearance against the Montreal Expos. He pitched two innings of relief, allowing one home run solo for Juan Rivera. After another appearance in relief the following day, he was assigned into Triple-A in August the 27th of August, 2004. He was summoned to Triple-A again in September on the 7th, when rosters grew and ended his season for the Rockies. Gissell was able to pitch in five games, making one start, and compiled a an 0-1 record and an 14.54 ERA. Gissell was released following the season.
From 2006-2007, Gissell played for the Seibu Lions in the Pacific League of Nippon Professional Baseball.
Gissell returned to Major League Baseball on November 20, 2007, when he signed a minor league contract that included an invitation to spring training with the Oakland Athletics. He became a free agent at the end of the season and signed with the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions of the Chinese Professional Baseball League.

After being assigned in the minor leagues on March 14 2003, the player was dismissed just 15 days later, by the Astros the following day, March 29. They Colorado Rockies then signed him to a minor league deal on April 3rd in 2003. Gissell was to spend the entirety of the season in the triple-A Colorado Springs Sky Sox, having an 8-4 record and an 3.55 ERA in 38 games which comprised 10 games. The 2nd of August, 2003 Gissell was joined by Jesus Sanchez to throw a no-hitter for the Sky Sox against the Nashville Sounds 3-1 on Herschel Greer Stadium in Nashville (Gissell 7 innings, Sanchez 2 IP). On the 15th of October 2003, he was an unrestricted minor league free agent. On the 19th of December 2003 He was signed to a minor league agreement to the San Francisco Giants that included an invitation to spring training. He was not able to make the big league team and was assigned for Triple-A Fresno. The Giants let him go the 7th of April, 2004 and he did not play an game with the Grizzlies.
