Choy So-yuk is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on October 10, 1950 in Jinjiang, China. Choy So-yuk BBS, JP (Chinese: Cai Su Yu; pinyin: Cai Suyu , born 10 October 1950) is a Hong Kong politician. She is a member elected of the Eastern District Council and a Hong Kong Deputy of the National People’s Congress. Between 1997 and 2008, she was an elected part of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong and its predecessor. Choy is a part of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB) and her primary supporters are Beijing-friendly politicians as well as organizations, particularly that of the Fujianese located in North Point on Hong Kong Island.

Choy is an avid environmentalist who is a staunch supporter. She was the only one to break within her own party in order to support conservationists to save Queen’s Pier. She voted with democrats against an request for HK$50 million in order to finance the demolition and relocation to the new pier May 9 2007. Choy did not vote when she submitted a new request for funding to demolish the pier and move it to Queen’s Pier two weeks later. Choy revealed that she had been pressured from Michael Suen and Donald Tsang and party whips who did not permit Choy to cast an opposing vote and the government was able to win by a vote of 10-7.

In the 2008 Legco election, Choy was placed second to Jasper Tsang on the DAB list for the Hong Kong Island constituency. Choy’s loss of her seat was reportedly because the party’s vote was split with Regina Ip, who was the candidate endorsed by the DAB in the 2007 Hong Kong Island by-election.

Choy is a non-executive director of Ping Shan Tea Group, an investment holding company listed in Hong Kong. Formerly Huafeng Group, a textiles company, it was acquired in 2013 by China Natural Tea Holdings Company Limited, in a reverse takeover. The company was renamed to Ping Shan Tea Group Limited, and Choy’s position remains unchanged.

Since 2000, she’s been a member on the Eastern District Council, representing Kam Ping constituency. In the election of 2003 she was close to losing against Leung Kwok-hung (“Long hair”) as part of the fallout of the general public discontent with government-appointed representatives from all parties and in the 2007 election, she beat a challenge from a fellow supporter of the government and Fujian older Charles Chiang Yutui with 75 % of the votes. In the other elections for the seat, she’s been unopposed. In 2019, she resigned but her successor lost in the 2019 election by the candidate of the Civil Party.
