Chen Pi-hsien is one of the most popular and richest Pianist who was born on November 15, 1950 in Tainan, Taiwan. Chen Pi-hsien is a native of Taiwan. Both of her parents were from mainland China but moved into Taiwan at the time of 1949’s Civil War. His father worked as a professor at a university. She began taking piano lessons at age four and began performing in public in the age of five. At the age of nine, she was taken to Cologne to pursue study at Hochschule fur Musik Koln with Hans-Otto Schmid-Neuhaus. She earned her diploma as a classical pianist in the year 1970. In the years following, she continued her studies in the class of Hans Leygraf and took part in piano lessons taught by Wilhelm Kempff, Tatiana Nikolayeva, Claudio Arrau, and Geza Anda.
Since then, Chen has performed in prestigious venues like London, Amsterdam, Zurich, Berlin, Munich and Tokyo. She has performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Residentie Orchestra as well as the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra and all German Radio Symphony Orchestras. Conductors who she worked with have included Bernard Haitink, Paul Sacher, Colin Davis, Charles Dutoit, Marek Janowski, Hans Zender, Peter Eotvos and many more. She was the partner of Hermann Baumann, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Augustin Dumay, Alyssa Park, Wolfgang Meyer and Julius Berger. She was a part of numerous concerts: she performed performances at performances at the Schwetzinger Festspiele, the London Proms as well as Osaka Festival, Osaka Festival, the Hong Kong Arts Festival as well as The Festival d’Automne Paris, the Festival Wien Modern and the Triennale Cologne 1994 and 1997 in addition to The Festivals of Lucerne as well as Osaka.
In 1983 Chen is a instructor of the piano of the Hochschule fur Musik Koln. Since 2004, she has an identical job with the Hochschule fur Musik Freiburg. In addition, she holds the post as a visiting professor in the Institute of Music of National Chiao Tung University.

Chen Pi-hsien (Chinese Chen Bi Xian , pinyin: Chen Bixian ; born 15 November 1950) is a German-Taiwanese classical pianist. She has been awarded honors at a number of international piano competitions. She was called”the “Chinese Miracle” by European media. She is a teacher in the Hochschule fur Musik Freiburg and is a resident of Germany currently.
The year was 1972. Chen received international recognition by winning a prize at the Concours Reine Elisabeth and the first prize at the Rundfunkanstalten ARD International Piano Competition in Munich. In the following year, she was awarded the first prize during the Arnold Schonberg Competition in Rotterdam and the J.S.Bach Competition in Washington D.C.
Her increasing interest and engagement for contemporary music grew in the cooperation with composers as John Cage, Pierre Boulez, Karlheinz Stockhausen and György Kurtág. In 1999, she was successfully touring in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Besides that she performed music by contemporary German composers and pieces by John Cage and Elliott Carter on different German festivals.
