Charmaine Crooks (CM) (born August 8 1962) was a Canadian athlete who is a the five times Olympian with the Olympic Silver medal (LA ’84 4X400m Relay). Crooks is a native of Mandeville, Jamaica, but was a member of Canada for over twenty years of athletics. She was the First Canadian woman to complete an 800m in under two minutes. She took home Gold medals from the Pan American, Commonwealth, World Cup, and the World Student Games. The year 1996 was the first time she received the honor of being Canada’s flag bearer during the Opening Ceremonies for the Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games. The fifth child of three brothers and five sisters.
Crooks is currently a Board member for the Canucks Autism Network (CAN) and has been an Honorary Member of Big Sisters of the Lower Mainland since the year 2000. She is also a part of FIFA’s Organising Committeee for Competitions.
In 2006, she was the recipient of the IOC Women in Sport Trophy.
As an elected member of the Executive Board of the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), Crooks is Chair of Olympians Canada (alumni body of Olympians) and the COC’s Awards and Recognition/Hall of Fame Committee. As one of the original 2010 Olympic bid team members (since 1998) she is also one of twenty Directors for the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC), and served on both the VANOC Governance and Strategic Communications Committee.
Crooks is elected as a member of The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes Commission in 1996 and was appointed a full member of the IOC between 2000 and 2004. She remains on the IOC’s Athletes’ Committee as well as a member of the IOC Press Commission since 2001 and was the original member of the newly formed IOC Ethics Commission.

Crooks was awarded the 400-metre title at the very first Pan Am Junior Championships in 1980. She also won winning silver in the 4 400 meters relay. In 1981, she took home bronze medals during the World Cup in Rome as an American participant in the 4 400 meters relay team. She was awarded a Gold medals in the 4 400 metre relay and was seventh out of a nine-woman field in the 400-metre individual race in the 1982 Commonwealth games. The year 1983 was the time she was awarded Gold in the 400 metre race in the Pan Am Games, and she was awarded a silver medal in the 4 400 metre relay in addition to an overall silver at the World University games as a participant in the 4 400 metre team. In 1984 , at the Los Angeles Olympics she won silver in the squad that established the record at 3:21.21 in the four 400 meters relay. She placed 7th in the last race race of 400 metres with the personal record of 50.45. She won the race in 1986. again became a Commonwealth champion as a part in the success 4 400-metre relay team and finished fifth in individual race of 400 meters in a tight race, just a fraction of a second separated the sixth and second-place runners. In 1987, she was on Canada’s silver medal winning 4 400m relay team in the Pan Am Games. In 1989, at the World Cup she won gold as part of the America’s 4 x 400m relay team. She also won two silver medals for the 400m as well as being part of Canada’s four-x400 meters relay team during the Francophone Games in Casablanca in 1989. The year 1992 was the time she was awarded an award of silver in the 400m race in the World Cup and was again part of the team that won the America’s 4 400 meters relay team. The Commonwealth Games held in Victoria the year 1994, she won the silver gold medallist for the 800 meters and bronze medallist for the 4x 400 meters.
