She started swimming at age four, and advanced through Nottinghamshire swimming training until she joined the Nova Centurion swimming club at the age of 12. Her first appearance for Great Britain at the age of 16, when she competed during the Danish Open.

In 2011, Henshaw was a member of Great Britain at the IPC European Championships. She placed 5th overall in the S8 400m freestyle and 4th for the SM8 200m individual medley, and was awarded silver medal in the SB6 100m breaststroke. Henshaw returned to her British squad in the year 2012, when she was picked to compete in her 2nd Paralympics in London, this time at home in London. She took part in two events, in the 400m Freestyle (S8) and the 100m Breaststroke (SB6). In her first race that was the 400m freestyle she was unable to get through the heats and finished 12th. In the morning of 5 September Henshaw broke a new Paralympic record by running the speed in the range of 1:39.64 during the qualification heat for 100m breaststroke. The final, which took place during the afternoon session was a battle between Henshaw competing in a tight race against Viktoriia Savtsova from the Ukraine Although both swimmers broke Henshaw’s records, Savtsova took gold by 0.03 seconds.

The next major event for Henshaw included in 2009 at the IPC European Championship. She competed in into the S8 400m freestyle as well as the SM8 200m individual medley, and the SB6 100m breaststroke. She won the gold medal for the breaststroke with a speed of 1:40.50. The gold medal was also awarded during the 2010 British Championships in the 100m breaststroke. The following year, she competed with the Great Britain team at the IPC World Championship, and in the finals for the 100m breaststroke, she was the fastest in the world. At the end of competition, she finished in 1:39.74 She was second in the race to win the silver medal. In the 2010, British Championships, Henshaw failed to defend her gold medal, placing third in the breaststroke 100m even though she was five seconds faster than the previous year.

Charlotte Henshaw (born 16 January 1987) is a former British Paralympic swimmer. She participated at the SB6, SM8 and S8 category events. She represented Great Britain in both the 2011 IPC World Championships and the 2012 Summer Paralympics, winning the silver medal at both championships. She was then awarded an Olympic bronze medal at the Rio 2016 Paralympics at Rio de Janeiro.

In 2005, she moved to Scotland to pursue a degree in Psychology and Sport Studies in the University of Stirling. When she was at Stirling she juggled her studies and training and was chosen as a representative for Great Britain at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing. In Beijing she only competed in one event which was the SB6 100m breaststroke. She achieved an official timing of 1:45.28 to finish fourth place.

In early 2017, Henshaw announced her retirement from swimming to become a competitive paracanoeist. Starting canoe-training in late 2016, she made her international debut at the European Champions in Bulgaria – winning a silver medal – and the World championships in the Czech Republic during 2017. The 2018 season saw Henshaw add both World Cup & European Silver during May and June. Henshaw competed at her 2nd Paracanoe World Championships in August

2018. She won bronze in the VL3 200m and became World Champion in the KL2 200m – her first international Paracanoe title.
