In 2005, Coventry initially joined the rebellion but then returned alongside Gavin Ewing and Barney Rogers. He didn’t play for Zimbabwe at the time in Bangladesh and South Africa, but continued excellent domestic form and he was chosen for Zimbabwe A’s wicketkeeper in their series in the group against Pakistan A. Coventry did not play in any or the three-day “Tests”, with first Neil Ferreira and then Brendan Taylor being the preferred choice, but Coventry was a part of one of the “ODIs”. In the first, Coventry scored 6 as Zimbabwe lost, however in the second, he put up an impressive innings that pushed his team into contention for the national championship.

The good form in the domestic league has seen Coventry selected for the entire national team for a tour of England at the end of 2003. He was brought in as opener for the One Day International against England at Bristol however he struggled with his performance, scoring just three runs from 10 balls, and was then dropped for on the Australia tour. Coventry did not return to the team until 2005, and after scoring 100 during a game against Pakistan A Coventry came back into the team as a Supersub in the match against New Zealand. In a game in which Zimbabwe was beaten by a large margin, Coventry scored an entertaining 25. Coventry then played in the following three ODI matches with New Zealand and India scoring 0,35 and a dazzling score of 74 in the final game.

Charles Kevin Coventry (born 8 March 1983) is a Zimbabwean cricketer. The batsman is right handed as well as an occasionally a wicket-keeper. He has previously shared the record together with Saeed Anwar for the highest single score in an One Day International, 194 not out. This record was eclipsed by Sachin Tendulkar’s score of 200 on the 24th of February, 2010. His score is the top score of an ODI in an unsuccessful match, beating Matthew Hayden’s score of 181. He is one of one of a handful of athletes who wear prescription glasses when playing sports. In the moment, he is playing cricket for club in Dubai alongside other Zimbabweans like Glen Querl and Bradley Staddon.

In 2002, Coventry made an application to an academy and received a place at the CFX Academy, doing well there, before moving back to Matabeleland. He also played for Zimbabwe at the level of Under-19 and participated in eight Youth One-Day Internationals during the Under-19 World Cup 2001-02 at New Zealand.

In 2006 he played in a number of one day matches against Kenya and went on the tour to the West Indies, however, after a discipline issue he was sent home early. As a result, he found himself out of the side again and he subsequently did not play at international level again until August 2009 when he returned to the Zimbabwean side to play a five match one-day series against Bangladesh.
