Charles Alston (born June 8 1978) is a former professional gridiron football player which played in the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Alston played in college football as well as basketball as a student at Bowie State University, becoming the first NCAA player to play an basketball and football game in one day. In the first year of his stay playing for the Bulldogs, Alston was named to the All-Conference football team for his position as offensive lineman. Alston later commanded the Bulldogs in the second season as team captain. From 2003 until 2004 Alston attempted to enter the National Football League (NFL) by playing for three teams in the preseason, or in the practice squad. He did not play an actual game within the NFL.

The Atlanta Falcons signed Alston immediately following the conclusion of the 2003 campaign and assigned Alston for the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe. He had some satisfaction in the Admirals as he was awarded one of the NFL Europe Defensive Player of the Week in May, after having recorded three sacks, four tackles and four defensive stops in one game. He also scored a touchdown in June. recovered a fumble to score the score in a victory in a game against Rhein Fire. Alston was a candidate for a spot as a player on the Falcons roster during training camp, but was dropped out of the team in September prior to the beginning of the regular season in 2004.

Alston spent four weeks on the practice squad of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in October and November 2004. He worked out for the Washington Redskins in December 2004 but wasn’t signed.

After his performance in the 2005 postseason, Alston was considered a “lock” to make the active roster. He started as a defensive end in the season opener. Alston’s role on the team was more consistent in 2006, playing in 13 regular season games. In August, Alston sacked Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback Kerry Joseph on their final drive, resulting in a 24–18 win. He was named lineman of the week later that month after recording two tackles and three sacks against the BC Lions. In early September, Alston recovered a Calgary Stampeders fumble for the only touchdown of his career. He finished the season with 21 tackles, four sacks, and two forced fumbles.

The year 2002 was the time that Alston got a call as a Pre-season Division II All-American and was appointed player captain at Bowie State. Alston played a tackle to loss on the last game of the postseason with Bowie State and the Virginia State Trojans, resulting in Bowie State Bulldogs winning their CIAA East Division title. The Bulldogs fell to Fayetteville State Broncos Fayetteville State Broncos at the CIAA championship game. The Bulldogs received an invitation to participate for the Pioneer Bowl against the Tuskegee Golden Tigers The bowl game was later canceled because of funding problems. Alston completed the 2002 regular season with more than 60 tackles.

Alston was a student at Central High School in Washington, D.C.. While in Central, Alston received accolades for both his football coach and basketball player in the high school level. As a player on the football team, Alston played as an offensive lineman. Alston was eligible for the 2003 NFL Draft but went undrafted. He was later signed by the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League. He remained with the Cowboys through training camp but was cut in the preseason. Alston later tried out for the San Francisco 49ers but wasn’t signed by the team.
