Uda Walawwe Mahim Bandaralage Chanaka Asanka Welegedara, commonly known as Chanaka Welegedara, (Sinhala: caank Velgedr ; born 20th March, 1981 in Matale) is a pro Sri Lankan international cricketer in all forms of the game.
Welegedara was transferred to Australia in 2015 and began playing for the local Victorian Cricket team, Westmeadows during his 2015/16 Australian Cricket season. In his first season He finished with 27 maidens, 146 overs 34 wickets, and an average 13.38. As he enters the second season the coach has been appointed of Westmeadows.
He was part of the Sri Lankan One Day International squad to take on India on December 9, 2009. He made his debut on the 15th of December in Rajkot as well as in a game where the score was 825 in just 100 overs, he scored figures of 2/63 after 10 overs, and claimed the wickets Virender Sehwag, and Virat Kohli. He also scored five wickets in the match against India.

On December 18, 2007, the player made his Test debut at the end of the Test against England in Galle. Welagedara was picked as a member of Sri Lanka’s Test squad for their 2008 tour to the West Indies, but had to wait until November 2009 to make his second Test match, that was against India He went on to take part in all three Tests during the series. The first wicket he took in a Test is the England’s Paul Collingwood.
A graduate of the St. Thomas’s College in Matale and he demonstrated the potential of a future entry into the national cricket by his bowling performance at school levels. A left-arm fast-bowler by trade, he boasts an average of a decent bowler for both first-class and List A cricket, in the mid- to low 20s. He has been a part of Moors Sports Club and North Central Province’s cricket team, and was selected for Sri Lanka’s Sri Lanka A squad for the game against Bangladesh during Sri Lanka’s tour in 2007.
On 6 April 2015, Welagedera recorded the best economical spell of Twenty20 cricket history against Sinhalese Sports Club. His spell finished with 4 overs, 2 maidens, four wickets for just two runs (4-2-2-4), breaking the 4-3-2-2 spell of South African Chris Morris. The record was later broken by Pakistani pacer Mohammad Irfan with 4-3-1-2 figures.
