Chad Ho (born 21 June 1990) is an South African open water swimmer who specializes in marathons of 10km and 5km swimming. The school he attended was Westville Boys High School, he’s known as to be among the fastest open water swimming pros around the globe. He taken home the overall series title in the 2010 FINA World Cup, and also attended the Olympic Games twice, in 2008 and 2016. He is also seven times the winner for the Midmar Mile.

The year 2012 was the time that Ho gave another chance for a chance to compete in compete in the Summer Olympics in London, through his participation in the FINA Olympic Marathon Swim Qualifier at Setubal, Portugal. Ho was competing against a group of 61 open-water swimmers comprising Stoychev, David Davies of Great Britain, and Oussama Mellouli from Tunisia who has previously earned the Olympic gold medal in the pool. Ho however, was unable to be able to compete in his second Olympics by finishing in 12th position with a time of 1:46:29.4.

In 2011 Ho placed second in the 5km marathon and won with Troyden Prinsloo to win the gold medal in the 10 km race in the Telkom SA National Aquatic Championships in Jeffreys Bay. After his success at these national competitions Ho was selected to compete in the male 10-kilometer marathon in the FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China. However, he ended the race further away than the podium, finishing at the bottom of the podium, finishing in 20th place with an average time of 1:54:58.6 just three seconds slower than the Ukrainian Igor Snitko.

He won the bronze medal in the 5km marathon and a best-ever times of 56:41.9. Ho also placed twenty-third in the 10km marathon with the time of 1:53:13.1 which was exactly one second slower than the record-setting time of the Olympics. The following year, Ho increased his lead on the FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup circuit by achieving the top spot at every meet of the competition. While he was only able to win the sixth meeting held in Hong Kong, Ho’s victory time of 27 second was among the biggest in the seriesand declared him the overall champion. In recognition of his extraordinary performance during the World Cup, and his dedication towards the discipline, Ho was nominated as the 2010 World Open Water Swimming Man of the Year.

In 2015, Ho won gold in the 2015 World Aquatics Championships men’s 5km open water swim in a time of 55:17.6. Open water swimming was not sponsored in South Africa and Ho used crowdfunding to raise the funds needed to compete.
