Caroline Kilel is one of the most popular and richest Marathon Runner who was born on March 21, 1981 in Kenya. Caroline Cheptanui Kilel, a Kenyan long distance runner, was born 21 March 1981. She was the winner of the Boston Marathon 2011 and the Frankfurt Marathon 2010 and 2013.

Kilel ran in the Seoul International Marathon 2010 and finished third at 2:26:58. In October 2010, she won her most significant win on the circuit. She took the Frankfurt Marathon women’s title in a new course record of 2:23.25 hours and beat Dire Tune by 19 second. She also won the Zwolle Half Marathon, 20 kms de Maroilles and Scottish Run.

In her first race of 2012, she was runner-up to Belaynesh Oljira in a sprint finish at the Houston Half Marathon. She suffered in the hot conditions at the 2012 Boston Marathon and not only failed to defend her title, but did not finish the race. She won the Taipei Marathon for a second time that December, running the distance in 2:30:19 hours. Returning to the Houston Half Marathon, she was again runner-up to an Ethiopian, this time to Mamitu Daska.

Kilel faded badly at the 2013 Tokyo Marathon, coming 21st in 2:47:08 hours. She focused on the 10,000 metres after that, but did not gain selection for the 2013 World Championships in Athletics. She returned to the top of the podium at the Frankfurt Marathon with a new personal best of 2:22:34 hours (a two-second improvement).

She was third in 2009 at the BIG25 Berlin race. In Birmingham, England, she also attended the 2009 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships. Although she was fourth on the podium, she still managed to set a personal record of 1:08,16 and help Kenya win the team gold, The next week, she set a new personal record with a win in the Ljubljana Marathon. This improved her previous time by nearly five minutes and also created a course record. She won the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow a second consecutive time, and was on the podium at Montferland Run 15K.

She finished eighth in the long distance race at the 2003 World Cross Country Championships, where Kilel was part of the Kenyan team that won the silver medal in team competition. After finishing runner-up at the 2004 Prague Marathon and 2003 Venice Marathon, she won her first race at Palermo City Marathon over the classic distance. She set a personal record to win the Pune Half Marathon. Then, she ran her second fastest marathon time (2:30:44) to take the title at Taipei International Marathon.

In April 2011, Kilel won the Boston Marathon in 2:22:36 beating American Desiree Davila, who ran the fastest Boston Marathon for an American women, by two seconds. She stayed on in Boston to compete at the inaugural B.A.A. 10K, which she also won in a time of 31:58 minutes. In September she came third in a Kenyan sweep of the Portugal Half Marathon, behind Mary Keitany and Helena Kirop.
