Carlos Cardoso is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on December 29, 1944 in Setúbal, Portugal. Cardoso was one of few white Mozambicans to remain in Mozambique after the 1974 withdrawal of Portugal’s colonial administration. This was in response to the FRELIMO liberation movements in the context the Lusaka Accord. From 1980 to 1982, he was editor at AIM, the government’s press agency. He started his career in junior government media positions. After a brief stint in prison, Cardoso was also an advisor to Samora Malchel. He left AIM in 1989 to become an artist and then to create Mediacoop, an independent co-operative of press workers. He founded the weekly newspaper Savana in 1992. He left it in 1997 to start a new newspaper called Metical.
Carlos Cardoso was a Mozambican journalist. He lived from 1951 to 22 November 2000. His newspaper’s investigation into corruption during the privatization of Mozambique’s largest bank led to his murder.
Cardoso was killed in Maputo’s central district on 22 November 2000 while investigating a fraud amounting to US$14million connected with Mozambique’s largest bank, Banco Comercial de Mocambique. Three suspects in the 2002 trial of six murder suspects described Nyimpinechissano as the son of President Joaquim Cissano. They claimed that Nyimpine Chissano paid Cardoso by cheque. Anibal dos Santos was a Portuguese citizen accused of masterminding Cardoso’s murder. He was convicted in absentia after fleeing from prison in 2003. A retrial was held in 2006, following which dos Santos was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment.
