Carla Beurskens is one of the most popular and richest Athletics Competitor who was born on February 10, 1952 in Tegelen, Limburg, Netherlands. Carolina (“Carla”) Alwina Hubertina Beurskens was a prominent long-distance runner from Holland from the second half the 1970s to well into the 1990s. She was born 10 February 1952. She was most successful over the longer distance during the majority of that period.
Beurskens’ accomplishments in marathons held in large cities around the globe were even better. She is, in fact, the only female athlete to win the Rotterdam Marathon multiple times, except for Tegla Loroupe from Kenya. Even though she won her first race in 1984, she said that she would not be competing in Rotterdam again unless there were better conditions for female competitors. In 1990, the circumstances were perfect for Limburg’s athlete. She won the second edition of the event. She was also the first Rotterdam female to achieve a time in under two hours, 2:29:47. She won the City-Pier- City Loop half-marathon in the Hague four more times (1984-86 and 1990).
Carla Beurskens finished second behind triple winner Katrin Dorre in her personal best (2.26:34 hours) at the Tokyo Marathon on November 15, 1987. The Dutch national record lasted almost thirteen years. The record was broken by Lornah Kiplagat, a Dutch Kenyan at the New York Marathon in 2:23:43. Beurskens also won the Nagoya marathon, Japan, in 1987. She finished in 2:28.27. This was despite the adverse weather conditions (some snowshowers along the route), in Eindhoven, 1995, and Enschede, 1997, both Dutch towns. In 1993, she won the Parelloop 10km race in the Netherlands.
