This was 1973. Although the collection contained a lot western classical music, it also had a large collection of avant-garde, electronic, and jazz music. The librarians were worried that many rare LPs would be lost or damaged by students and faculty. His job was to record every disc onto cassette as a backup operation. He quickly discovered that he could easily monitor any recording he made and even combine them without disturbing the original recordings. He began to experiment with musical collages and developed a habit of mixing disparate musical materials. He is also a professor at Chukyo University’s Department of Information Media and School of Information Science and Technology.
