Carl Edward Asaba, born 28 January 1973, is an ex- footballer from England who was a forward in Football League. His career began with Dulwich Hamlet in the non-league. His goalscoring skills earned him a move from Dulwich Hamlet to Brentford in 1994. After playing on loan for Colchester United, he moved to Reading in 1997. He enjoyed successful spells with Gillingham where he scored 36 goals over 77 league matches, and Sheffield United where he scored 23 goals in 67 league matches. He played for Stoke City, and ended his career at Millwall.
Asaba signed on a free transfer to Stoke City in August 2003. He made his debut three days later against Derby County, scoring a 3-0 victory. Asaba’s time at Stoke was short-lived. He scored nine league goals in just 70 games. Asaba submitted a transfer request in May 2005, with twelve months remaining on his Stoke contract.
After leaving Millwall, Asaba began training with Leicester City on non- contract terms in October 2006. However, he failed to agree a permanent deal with the club, and also failed to agree to terms with Nottingham Forest and Yeovil Town. In November 2006, he was given a trial at Chesterfield, where he also failed to sign permanently.
Asaba joined Sheffield United on 9 March 2001 for a fee PS92,500. After scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday on the Steel City derby, Asaba became a fan favorite. John Mackie, a Reading player, was reported by Sheffield United to The Football Association, and the Professional Footballers Association. He had racially abused Asaba on 14/12/2002. Mackie later apologized and donated two weeks of his wages to the Kick Racism Out of Football campaign. Mackie was then given a ban for three matches and a PS1,500 penalty. A five-match ban was also issued and another PS1,500 suspension until the end.

Asaba was born in London’s Westminster. He began his career at Dulwich Hamlet. After scoring a few goals at non-league level, Asaba was awarded a move to Brentford in 1994. Although he was not able to make an impact during his debut season, his form and speed improved significantly. Asaba played in twelve league games and scored two goals on loan for Colchester United in 1995. Colchester was where Asaba made his professional debut. He scored against Barnet. In the 1996-97 season, he scored 23 goals for Brentford as the Bees lost in the play-offs. Asaba’s goalscoring feats earned him a PS800,000.00 move to Reading in 1997.
Asaba failed to make an impact at Reading scoring only eight goals in 32 league games. Asaba was then signed to Gillingham by a club record of PS590,000. Robert Taylor was his partner and Asaba soon became a formidable partnership. He finished the 1998-1999 season as the club’s top scorer with 23 goals in all competitions. In the season’s final against Manchester City, he scored the first goal in the 81st minutes to make it 1-0 for Gillingham. Taylor, Asaba’s strike partner, scored the second goal in the 86th minute. However, City made a late comeback and took the tie into extra time. Then it went to penalties which City won 3-1. Asaba scored 40 goals in 91 competition appearances, a spell marred by injuries.
Millwall moved to sign Asaba on 25 August 2005 on a free transfer. He played in 24 games and scored four goals for Millwall before being one of eight players released from the club at the end of the 2005–06 season.
