Cardigan Connor is one of the most popular and richest Cricketer who was born on March 24, 1961 in The Valley, Anguilla. Cardigan Adolphus Conner, born 24 March 1961 in Anguilla, is an Anguillan-born former English cricketer. Connor was a right-handed batter and a right arm fast-medium bowler.
Connor was the final first-class player for Hampshire, playing in a County Championship match with Derbyshire in 1998. However, he only played four first-class matches that season. His last one-day appearance was on the 13th September 1998, in an AXA League match with Worcestershire. Connor was out of the game at the close of 1998. Connor played over 1,000 games for Hampshire. His benefit year, which raised PS147,000.1, is testament to Connor’s status as a cult figure at club.
At the Anguillan general election in April 2015 Connor was elected in District 7 – West End for the Anguilla United Front.
He was the Hampshire Cricket Society Player-of-the Year in 1994. Connor had become a cult character at the County Ground by this point. Connor was the County Championship’s 1996 Champion. He took 9/38 in a match against Gloucestershire, which was at the time Malcolm Marshall had retired.

Connor moved from Anguilla to England in 1979. Connor was signed in 1979 by Buckinghamshire and remained there for five years, playing in the Minor Counties Championship. Charlie Knott, a former Hampshire cricketer, saw Connor and recommended him to Hampshire. He signed him for the 1984 season.
Connor and Malcolm Marshall, a West Indian new bowler, formed a dangerous partnership. Connor often tried to beat Marshall for pace. Connor was a member the 1988 Benson and Hedges Cup Hampshire winning team and took two wickets at Lord’s. Connor also won another honour in 1991, when he was again a member the winning Hampshire team in the 1991 NatWest Trophy. He took three wickets, including one from future England batsman Graham Thorpe. There was a call for Connor to be called up to the England One-Day Squad, but it never happened. Connor was successful in the Benson and Hedges Cup for the second time, when Hampshire defeated Kent in 1992. Connor was only able to take one wicket in the match. It was Mark Ealham.
After retiring from cricket, Connor returned to Anguilla. He was Anguilla’s ‘chef de mission’ (team manager) at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. Connor currently works as a hotel masseur and a fitness coach, with a website calling him “the island’s most popular personal trainer”.
