Cadence Weapon is one of the most popular and richest Canadian rapper who was born on February 21, 1986 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. His father, Teddy Pemberton (a pioneering DJ on CJSR FM), was his father. His grandfather, Rollie Miles was a football player for Edmonton Eskimos. At 13 years old, he began to rap and enrolled in journalism school. He then switched to music school. In 2005, he released Cadence Weapon Is The Black Hand and the full-length album Breaking Kayfabe.

Pemberton, who had signed an American record contract with Epitaph Records’ sublabel ANTI – a move that would increase his exposure in the United States. Breaking Kayfabe, which was part of the new deal, was released in the USA on March 13, 2007. Big Dada was Cadence Weapon’s European representative label in the fall 2007. Anti-/Epitaph released Cadence Weapon’s second album, Afterparty Babies, on March 4, 2008. He also performed at ZXZW, the Netherlands in 2008.

In 2011, he participated in the National Parks Project, collaborating with musicians Laura Barrett and Mark Hamilton and filmmaker Peter Lynch to produce and score a short film about Alberta’s Waterton Lakes National Park.

Cadence Weapon released the album Hope in Dirt City on May 29, 2012. The album became his third straight to be nominated for the Polaris Music Prize, and second the make the short list.
