Hussain was born in Sylhet District, Sylhet Division, Bangladesh. A road accident in Bangladesh in 1994 left Hussain with a severe spinal cord injury. His hands are completely paralysed, his arm movement is restricted and his lower body is inactive. Hussain is a wheelchair rugby player and is classified as either a “one-pointer” or a “1.0 player”.
Hussain was skeptical about wheelchair rugby when he first saw it in 1995. He thought there was too much contact with wheelchairs. He gave the sport a chance for fun and fitness a year later. After a few training sessions, he became more interested in the sport’s speed and competitive aspect and decided to dedicate his life to it.
In 2008, he was part of the Great Britain team that finished fourth in the Summer Paralympic Games in Beijing. Afterward, Hussain considered retiring from the game.
