James “Bruiser” Flint (born July 23rd 1965) is an American men’s basketball coach who is as of now an assistant coach in Indiana. He was previously the chief coach of Drexel University in Philadelphia, where was his birthplace and where he grew up.

During his time as a coach at Drexel, Flint was named CAA coach of the year four times (2002 2004, 2005 and 2012). He also received the NABC District Coach of the Award three times (2007 2009, 2007, 2012). Under Flint, Drexel made five NIT appearances. As of 2012, the team won the initial CAA Regular Season Championship in 2012, but fell in the finals to VCU at the end of the Conference Tournament. on Selection Day, Drexel barely missed the at-large selection at the NCAA Tournament. On March 7 of 2016, following the conclusion of Drexel’s regular season, Flint was dismissed as the head coach of the basketball team after 15 years playing for the team. When he was fired, dismissal, he was the most successful coach of all time of Drexel Basketball history.

Flint was named the head coach of Drexel the 5th of April, 2001. replacing Steve Seymour, who had been fired in March following not making the NCAA Tournament in either of his two years as the head coach. Flint’s hire as the head coach at Drexel coincided with Drexel’s departure away from America East Conference, where the school had experienced steady achievement under the the former director of football Bill Herrion, to the Colonial Athletic Association (or CAA).

The year 1987 was the time that Flint was hired as an assistant at Coppin State University. A year later, Flint became an assistant coach under John Calipari at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (or UMass). Following Calipari quit UMass to join his new job in the NBA at the end of 1996 Flint became his replacement and became the 17th coach at the school. While coaching the Minutemen, Flint compiled an overall record of 86-72. He received the NABC District Coaching of the Award in 1998. In the face of pressure, after failing to sustain the level of success which they enjoyed during the tenure of Calipari, Flint resigned from UMass after the 2000-01 season.

Flint is an 1987 graduate of Saint Joseph’s University. While at St. Joe’s, Flint was a part of the school’s basketball team for the varsity level. Flint was selected to the All-Atlantic 10 team when he was senior, and admitted into the St. Joe’s athletic hall of fame in 1988.
