In his second year, He led in scoring for the Big East in scoring with an average of 20.6 and his rebounding average of 9.4 was third behind Coleman as well as Dikembe Mutombo. The third and final season at the college level saw him experience a small drop in nearly every statistical category as well as due to his reduced minutes per game: Although he was averaging over 30 minutes in the first two seasons, in 1990-91, he only played 25.9 minutes. He then played for several teams in Italy (including Roseto, where he played 24 games recording 18.7 points per game). He ended his career in 2010, aged 42, playing for Gorizia.
After a year of non-activity, Shorter made his debut in the 1988-89 campaign. He made a huge impact at Pitt and played in every game for the entire season as the top player on team scoring as well as rebounding. He finished third in scoring, and second in rebounds for his conference, with an average of 9.6 average (the highest rebounder of the team was Derrick Coleman). Shorter is who is a Philadelphia native, was raised in a neighborhood with low income. He was a student at Simon Gratz High School along with his elder younger brother Rodney and was always named among the top recruits in his group. In his freshman year, he was among the first choices on the bench, scoring 15.3 points. He also received All-Public League honors, being selected for the Third team. In his sophomore year , he was named ESPN’s Sophomore of Year with an average that included 20 points as well as 10 rebound. The 1985 Philadelphia Public League Simon Gratz defeated 69-70 in the semi-finals against Southern and was led by the Prospective college player Lionel Simmons. Shorter was selected to the All-Public League First Team and All-City third team. In his junior season, he scored 31.8 pointsand 15.8 rebounding and 2.6 blocks. Gratz fell to Southern at the quarterfinals, despite a 33-point 17-rebounds performance from Shorter who was also 14-15 on the floor. For the second time in a row, Shorter was named to the All-Public and All-City first team. the team was also named one of the Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year.
After a career of three years in Simon Gratz, Shorter had recorded 1,869 points. This put him just 383 points shy of Wilt Chamberlain’s Philadelphia record of 2,252. Despite the possibility of passing the record during his senior year, Shorter had been having problems in his GPA and as well as his teachers were concerned about his inability to get his minimum SAT score to go to college. To improve his grades and maintain the highest quality of basketball play, Shorter transferred to Oak Hill Academy which was which is a boarding school famous for its basketball team. In the spring of 1987, Shorter signed up to play for Pitt and had to put in the hours in the classroom as well as on the court. In his senior year , he averaged 13 rebounds and 23 points and was as one of the top seniors in his class. At the conclusion of his senior season, he was picked for the Parade All-America first team and was named as a McDonald’s All-American. In 1987’s McDonald’s All-American Boys Game he scored the highest point with 24 points. the game also saw him grab 8 rebound. Shorter was automatically eligible for the 1991 NBA Draft, but he was not drafted by an NBA franchise and he decided to play overseas: his first team was Oostende in the Netherlands, where he played for 2 seasons. He ended the 1993 season at Ginebra San Miguel in the Philippines. In 1994 he signed for the Fort Wayne Fury in the Continental Basketball Association, where he only played 2 games scoring a total 9 points. After a brief passage at French club Pau-Orthez (5 games), Shorter signed for Andino in the Argentine Liga Nacional de Básquet, where he led the league in rebounding with an average of 13.2.
