In November of 2017, Idowu was called up to the Nigerian national team for their friendly match against Argentina at Krasnodar on November 14, 2017. Idowu began his career against Argentina on the 14th of November when he was an opportunistic substitute for Ola Aina. He scored Nigeria’s third goal in the 4-2 victory.
On 10 July 2018, he signed a 3-year contract with FC Lokomotiv Moscow.
