Brian Kelly Dayett (born January 22nd 1957) is a former Major League Baseball outfielder who was a part of five seasons between 1983 and 1987 with The New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs. He also spent time in Japan playing with the Nippon-Ham Fighters of Nippon Professional Baseball from 1988 until 1991.
Dayett was originally scheduled for the position of the Cubs starting right fielder during the 1987 season. However, Andre Dawson, signed by the Cubs as an unrestricted free agent, took over the spot. That means that Dayett to fill his regular reserve position and he wasn’t renewed at the conclusion this season.
In 2002, he was a coach for the Michigan Battle Cats. In 2006, he was a coach for the Clinton LumberKings, and later served as the hitting coach for the Spokane Indians. A hitting instructor for the Texas Rangers, Dayett filled a vacancy on the Rangers’ coaching staff late in the 2014 season following the resignation of Ron Washington.
The first time he played was on the 11th of September at 26 years of age performing as a pinch hitter to Omar Moreno. He scored a hit during the first game. He hit .207 during his first season. On the 4th of December 1984 his team the Yankees traded Dayett along with Ray Fontenot to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for Porfi Altamirano Rich Bordi, Henry Cotto along with Ron Hassey.

The year 1978 was his debut season with the minors Dayett recorded 11 hits over his 68 games. In 1982, he scored 34 for the AAA Nashville Sounds, winning the 1982 Southern League Most Valuable Player Award. Dayett was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2000. He is now retired and settled down with his wife and two sons in Winchester, Tennessee. His parents and two sisters still reside in Connecticut.
