Medders was a student at Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He was picked to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 37th selection round of the 1998 MLB June Amateur Draft but decided to go to Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa. The team then picked him for the Kansas City Royals in the 18th round of 1999’s MLB June Amateur Draft however he decided to attend Mississippi State University. As of 2001, Mississippi State won its first SEC championship since 1987. Medders was selected on the SEC All-Tournament Team.
Medders spent the years 2001 and 2002 in his Class A+ Lancaster JetHawks before advancing to the Class AAA El Paso Diablos in 2003 and then the A Class AAA Tucson Sidewinders in 2004. The team he played for made his debut with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2005, posting a 4-1 record with an 1.78 ERA and 31 strikeouts. in 2006, Medders suffered a muscle group strain that forced him to be unable to participate in spring training. He began the season in Tucson and pitched mostly in major leagues in the season and posted an ERA of 3.64 in 60 relief appearances.
Medders was surprised to be demoted to the minor leagues in May 2008. He had a 4.58 ERA in 18 games at that point. Medders struggled at Class AAA Tucson, earning a 7.45 ERA in 26 appearances. He became a free agent at the end of the 2008 season.
