Bram van Ojik is one of the most popular and richest Economist who was born on September 22, 1954 in Veenendaal, Utrecht, Netherlands. Abraham “Bram” van Ojik (born 22 September 1954) is a Dutch political and diplomatic figure belonging to the GreenLeft (GL) party as well as an activist. Since March 23rd, 2017, the politician has been an elected Member of the House of Representatives. He previously was a member of the House from 1993 until 1994, and again from 2012 until 2015. In the last three years, he was also as the leader of GroenLinks. He was also an official of the Netherlands for migration of people since the 20th of October, 2015.

In 1997, Van Ojik again co-authored GroenLinks election program for 1998’s election.

After national elections on 12 September 2012 the size of the representation of the GroenLinks party within the House of Representatives was reduced from 10 seats to 4 seats. On 8 October 2012 Van Ojik became leader in the House of Representatives for GroenLinks; some days earlier his predecessor Jolande Sap was forced to step down as leader in the House of Representatives for GroenLinks by the board of the GroenLinks party.

On 12 May 2015 his resignation as Leader of GroenLinks and as member of parliament was announced. Jesse Klaver took over his role as leader of the party, while Rik Grashoff took up Van Ojik’s seat in parliament on 20 May 2015.

After not being reelected to in the Dutch House of Representatives, Van Ojik worked for the environmental group MilieuDefensie between 1994 between 1994 and 1997. In 1995, he wrote an article on corals alongside Labour Party politician Max van den Berg. In 1997, Van Ojik switched to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was appointed director of public communications on cooperation with development. In 1998, he once again co-authored a book along with Van der Berg, now on cooperation in the field of development. In 2001 Van Ojik became ambassador in general service. He was the external contact coordinator with the Dutch Minister of Development Cooperation. In 2003, Van Ojik became the Dutch ambassador to Benin. In 2006, he returned the Netherlands to take over the directorship of the inspectorate for evaluation of the development cooperation policy in the ministry of foreign Affairs. He also worked with the government to create a policy plan to achieve the millennium objectives of Fourth Balkenende cabinet.

Van Ojik comes from the Political Party of Radicals, one of the four parties that joined to create GroenLinks in 1989. Van Ojik had been member of the PPR since 1973. Between 1972 and the year 1980, Van Ojik studied economics at the Free University. He specialized in development economics. Between 1978 between 1978 and 1981, he was as a member of the board for radical education. As a conscientious objector Van Ojik did his alternative job at the development agency NIO. Then he joined the scientific bureau of PPR until 1983. In 1983, he published an article about basic income. In 1986, he co-authored elections program of the PPR. In 1985-88 He was editor-in-chief of the PPR party’s newspaper. Between 1988 and 1990 , he was the party chair of PPR. As the chair of the PPR the party, he participated in negotiations regarding the creation of GroenLinks the new political group that was created by the union between three parties: the Pacifist Socialist Party, Communist Party of Netherlands and the Evangelical People’s Party. Van Ojik had always favoured collaboration among the four parties however, the PPR party’s board of directors soon decided to end talks. Van Ojik had to defend the decision, even though the latter did not agree with the idea. In the PPR’s formal PPR group was later replaced with an informal delegation headed by the former chair of the party Wim De Boer. In 1989 , the discussions resulted in the creation of the new party. Van Ojik became a member of the party’s first board. Alongside these activities Van Ojik was a freelance journalist and adviser on the topic on development co-operation. Between 1990 and 1993, Van Ojik worked for Oxfam NOVIB.

Between 1993 until between 1993 and 1994 Van Ojik was member of the House of Representatives for GroenLinks. He was replaced by PPR Member Ria Beckers. He addressed the development cooperation, agriculture and science. He drafted an initiative to reduce the use of tropical wood. The initiative was eventually proposed during 1994 by Marijke Vos. In the 1994 election, Van Ojik was put on the seventh position on GroenLinks’ list. GroenLinks list, which was the same position he was on in 1989. GroenLinks only got five seats. He also was the co-author of the GroenLinks election program.

For GroenLinks, Van Ojik chaired a committee which evaluated the municipal elections (2006), parliamentary (2006) and provincial (2007), all of which GroenLinks had lost. Then he became chair of the committee which oversaw a debate within GroenLinks on the party’s principles, strategy and organizations. This led to a new manifesto of principles in 2008 of which Van Ojik is one of the co-authors.
