Bob Newton is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on November 23, 1956 in Chesterfield, United Kingdom. Robert Newton (born 23 November 1956) is an English footballer. Newton was striker for several clubs from Lower Divisions in the English Football League during the 1970s and the 1980s. Newton is most famous for his time in the club Hartlepool United between 1977 and 1982, during which time he wrote himself into the history of the club with the scoring of 48 goals in 150 league matches. He was a favorite with Hartlepool supporters, he later selected as Hartlepool’s ‘Player of the 1980s’.
On September 22, 1982 Newton moved in September 1982 to Port Vale, where he was later the team’s top scorer , scoring 22 goals. The club made it into Division Three. “Valiants” manager John McGrath called Newton along with striker Ernie Moss as the “Kray twins” because of their superiority over opposing defenders.
After his return to Hartlepool, Newton scored two goals in 11 matches before being loaned to Stockport County and subsequently released. He finished his Football League career with the Bristol Rovers in 1987, before joining Shepsed Charterhouse. He then played for the Cyprus-based AEP Paphos and Hong Kong’s Laisun team before returning to England and joining the Chesterfield based KSPO team.
Since retiring, Newton has been involved in various charity causes. He also worked as a lorry driver before he was caught drink driving and handed a 12-month driving ban in December 2007. His son, Lee, was a trainee at Chesterfield.
Newton was back in English football in 1981 and was well welcomed by the supporters in the Victoria Ground, and for three years, he was an attacking team with his co-player Keith Houchen. Between 1981 and 1982 Newton along with Houchen each scored 18 goals as Hartlepool’s best scorers. Newton scoring sixty goals in the league with Hartlepool.

Newton began his professional career in the English Premier League at Huddersfield Town with the “Terriers” between 1973 and 1974. Newton was named the best player in the world’s youth tournament at the age of 17, however, he suffered two serious injuries that forced him off the pitch for two years. He played for four years at Huddersfield before moving to Hartlepool United in mid-1977.
Outside of the field, Newton has been involved in two car accidents, one of them that occurred in 1978 when his co-teammate, Dave Wiggett, was fatally injured. He was sentenced to 9 months in prison in 1979, after being found guilty of causing the death of another person through reckless driving. Following the incident, Newton moved back to United States, playing for the New England/Jacksonville Teamen as part of the North American Soccer League in the years 1980 and 1981.
The following season, he joined his hometown club Chesterfield, with Martin Henderson and £8,000 going to Port Vale. Newton spent two seasons at Saltergate and topped the Spireites’ goalscoring chart in both seasons, forming a powerful front three with Phil Brown and Ernie Moss. After leaving Chesterfield Newton returned to Hartlepool in the summer of 1985 on the promise of better wages.
