Bob Knepper is one of the most popular and richest Baseball Player who was born on May 24, 1954 in Akron, Ohio, United States. Robert Wesley Knepper (born May 25 1954) is an American former Major League Baseball pitcher. From 1976 to 1990 Knepper pitched for 15 seasons with the San Francisco Giants and Houston Astros and earned two All-Star appearances, as well as his 1981 NL Comeback player of the Award of the Year. The controversy erupted over his remarks in 1988 regarding women umpires Pam Postema and the National Organization for Women.
In July 1989 Knepper was struggling to maintain an overall record of 4-10 wins and losses, as well as an 5.89 ERA. The Astros were forced to release him after he refused to be deported to minor leagues and was then signed with the San Francisco Giants a few days after. He pitched for the rest of his regular season in San Francisco, but did not make their roster for postseason. The Giants removed Knepper in June of 1990.
The 1988 season was among the best ever for him, Knepper was criticized for his remarks concerning Pam Postema, a female AAA umpire who was officiating an official game in the Major League spring training game. He claimed, “I just don’t think a woman should be an umpire. There are certain things a woman shouldn’t be and an umpire is one of them. It’s a physical thing. God created women to be feminine. I don’t think they should be competing with men. It has nothing to do with her ability. I don’t think women should be in any position of leadership. I don’t think they should be presidents or politicians. I think women were created not in an inferior position, but in a role of submission to men. You can be a woman umpire if you want, but that doesn’t mean it’s right. You can be a homosexual if you want, but that doesn’t mean that’s right either.” He also criticised women’s rights organization, the National Organization for Women, noting that “They are a bunch of lesbians. Their focus has nothing to do with women’s rights. It has everything to do with women wanting to be men.”
