The 1st of August, 2012 Gavin was, along with the second round selection from 2013’s MLS SuperDraft and allocation money was traded with New England Revolution in exchange for Shalrie Joseph. Gavin was with New England through the 2012 season. Following the end of the 2012 campaign, New England declined the 2013 option on Gavin’s contract. As a result, Gavin entered in the year 2012 MLS Re-Entry Draft. Gavin became an undrafted free agent following his decision to go not selected in both rounds of the draft.

Gavin was selected during the initial round (10th overall) of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft by Chivas USA. Gavin made his debut for Chivas USA on April 1st of 2010, in a match in a match against Los Angeles Galaxy, and scored his first goal in professional football with a 20-yard strike from outside the penalty area in a win of 4-0 against New England Revolution on May 5 in 2010.

On August 21, 2013, Gavin signed with Seattle Sounders FC after training with the team for several weeks.
