The most recent album he recorded included Wishbone (2016) in which The title song was the result of Miller’s grandsons who were excited to make wishes on the turkey’s wishbone during their Thanksgiving meal. In May of 2017, Miller won his second Blues Music Award in the “Instrumentalist-Bass” category.
In the year 2009, Miller began his very own group. Miller stated his fans that “I was getting on up in my 50s… I’d done all this playing with everybody else, and it just seemed like time. I can play this bass fairly well and I can sing a little bit and I know how to smile.” Blues with a Smile was released in the year 2010. It featured guest artists like Billy Branch on harmonica, Ronnie Baker Brooks and Shawn Kellerman on guitar, as well as Andrew “Blaze” Thomas on drums. Miller is a native of South Side, Chicago, Illinois, United States, and was brought up by his mother. The nickname he was given in his childhood “Biscuit” was a result of the fact that the family was having dinner, Miller ate a pan of biscuits from his grandmother. Miller found a four-string electronic bass guitar that belonged to his buddy’s younger brother. He was immediately inspired to attempt playing the guitar. Miller was introduced to blues music through his relationship with Willie Dixon. “I went to school with Willie’s kids,” Miller explained, “and Willie did one of the first blues concerts in Chicago. He once brought the little boy known as Lucky Peterson” and Miller observed “hearing the band perform with excitement… as well as it made me want to play the guitar.” Miller started his own band called Clever along with his cousin Ivan Wallace, and they joined forces to move to Minneapolis in 1982.
Miller continued to collaborate alongside Sonny Rodgers, from whom Miller gained a wealth of knowledge about blues playing and they released an album called They Call Me the Cat Daddy. The album won Rodgers the Handy Award for Best New Artist, but he passed away before he was able to accept the award. Miller went on to play support George “Mojo” Buford and Lady Blue (a vocalist backing Ike & Tina Turner). At this point Miller was asked to take a night off to fill in as the bassist with another Chicago blues artist from Chicago, Lonnie Brooks. His time in Brooks was more than 10 years in Brooks support band and included performing at the second inaugural of Bill Clinton. He joined the band in the year 2000. founded Biscuit and The Mix to take over the gap between engagements with Brooks and made Miller’s first album, called Come Together (2002). Miller was also a part of the band on a regular basis alongside Anthony Gomes, before joining the band as a full-time member for the recording of Sweet Stringin Soul. In his five-year stint in the band with Gomes, Miller contributed to the album Sweet Stringin Soul (2000), Unity (2002) along with Music is the Medicine (2006).
His best known songs include “Lay It On Down”, ” Bottle of Whiskey Bottle of Wine”, “Going Home”, “One More Mile”, “Monday Morning Blues”, and “Wishbone”. Miller is scheduled to play at the Bradenton Blues Festival in December 2017. Down Beat described him as “a real crowd-pleaser.”
