John William “Billy” Volek (born April 28th in 1976) is an ex- American football player that played for the National Football League. Volek was signed by Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2000 . He was also a part of the San Diego Chargers. He played for the college team in the state of Fresno State.

On the 19th of September in 2006. Volek had been traded to San Diego Chargers for a sixth-round selection for the 2007 NFL Draft after the Titans played the Chargers in their second game. Titans head coach Jeff Fisher has since publicly admitted that Volek was not honest with his team and this could be the reason for his trading. Fisher is quoted to have said “He was untruthful with me, untruthful with his head coach, about where he was and what he was doing. So we started off on the wrong page there, and that did not sit well with me.” The whole trade is thought to be chaotic, and while Fisher has been critical of Volek because he lied to him Fisher isn’t revealing the truth behind the story, and has instead stated that Volek didn’t take advantage of his opportunities after being been told that he was going to be the quarterback. A lot of critics say that Volek did not take full advantage of his chance to be the starter quarterback, and point at the fairly good preseason the Titans were able to enjoy.

Since the trade to San Diego in 2006, Volek saw spot duty behind Philip Rivers. During the AFC Divisional Playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts on January 13, 2008, Volek replaced the injured Philip Rivers and led a fourth-quarter comeback over the defending champions. He completed 3 of his 4 passes, including a 15-yard pass on his second pass attempt. He also scored his first touchdown of the year on a one-yard quarterback sneak which allowed the Chargers to win the game, 28–24, and go to the 2007 AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots.

The year 2004 saw him became 4th quarterback NFL history — along alongside Dan Marino, Dan Fouts and Phil Simms to pass over 400 yards during two games. This feat was also done during 2008 with New England Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel In 2011, with Tom Brady and Cam Newton and in 2018 , by Ryan Fitzpatrick. The news was released on the 17th of December, 2004 that Volek would be the quarterback in the starting lineup for the remainder this season with the Titans and would replace injury-stricken Steve McNair. McNair’s injuries were healed for the following season and Volek was able to back him up again, playing only one game. McNair was transferred for Baltimore Ravens Baltimore Ravens during June 2006 which gave Volek the chance to take over the starting role.
