Billy O’Callaghan (born 9 December 1974) is a famous Irish short novelist and fiction writer. He is most well-known for his collection of short stories, The Things We Lose the things we leave behind which was given by the Bord Gais Energy Irish Book Award in 2013 for his novella in 2013. as well as the novel My Coney Island Baby, that has been widely translated.
The first collection of his shorter stories In Exile, was published by Mercier Press in 2008. The collection was followed a year later by another collection called In Too Deep (also published by Mercier Press). In 2013 the third collection of his work entitled The Things We Forget The Things We Forget, was released through New Island Books. The short stories he wrote were published in literary magazines all over the globe, and have been translated into a variety of different languages. His work has been featured by RTE Radio 1, including The Book On One, Sunday Miscellany and the Francis McManus Awards series.
In 2017, Ploughshares published O’Callaghan’s story A Death in the Family as a Ploughshares Solo.
