In 1974, Bill made the decision to follow an interests in politics. He was granted a scholarship to the London School of Economics to begin in September of 1975. Between then, Phil Manzanera was planning to record his debut single album (Diamond Head) but had requested extra studio time to record Quiet Sun’s previously unreleased material. The band was revived and, with the help of Eno as well as his younger brother Ian MacDonald, the album Mainstream was recorded. Ian and Bill continued to write and recording together with Phil Manzanera over an extended time, resulting in Listen Now, an Listen Now album Listen Now, released in 1977. The summer of 1976 saw Phil, Bill and Eno together and drummer Simon Phillips, Francis Monkman and slide guitarist Lloyd Watson formed the short-lived 801 who performed three gigs in the summer of 1976 and released an album called 801 Live that was released in the fall of 1976.
In 1998 he was obliged to retire on health grounds. He had been elected as the London Borough councillor for the Anerley ward of Bromley Council in 1990 and had retained the seat in 1994 and 1998 but retired in 2002.

The results were successful and the business being taken over by the major independent market research firm Martin Hamblin, he helped organize and manage the Liberal Democrats’ research program up to 1997’s General Election in 1997.

William “Bill” MacCormick (born 15 April 1951, from London) is a famous English bassist and singer. He is the son of Ewen MacCormick and Olwen MacCormick. They got were married in 1946 following their time as a couple as a couple in the RAF. His elder brother, Ian MacCormick (also known as the journalist for music and writer Ian MacDonald) was born in 1948. After attending primary school in Brixton they both received free spots at Dulwich College. In Dulwich College, Bill came across Phil Targett-Adams (now more popularly recognized as Phil Manzanera) and they discovered a love for music. The year 1966 saw Bill’s mom work alongside Honor Wyatt, the mother of drummer Robert Wyatt, and Bill witnessed his group Soft Machine play their first concert in August of 1966 on the stage at Coombe Springs in Kingston and later, he was frequent guests at Honor Wyatt’s residence located in Dalmore Road, West Dulwich which is where the group lived and practiced. In 1968, Phil Targett-Adams as well as Bill formed a group in Dulwich College with a floating membership with only the drummer Charles Hayward, two years younger than them. The band was dubbed Pooh as well as the Ostrich Feather, they performed at concerts around the school and also at events. Bill and Phil left Dulwich College in 1969 and they joined forces together with Charles Hayward the following year to form a group called Quiet Sun. They were joined by deceased Phil Miller and Caravan’s keyboard player Dave Sinclair. The band recorded an album with CBS on December 21, 1971 (released in the form of Matching Mole on April 22, 1972) as well. Dave Sinclair was replaced by New Zealand keyboard player Dave MacRae in February 1972. They toured in a variety of shows until September 1972, when Robert split the group. The band had released their second record, Little Red Record, in the month prior. Bill briefly joined the Daevid Allen’s Gong in France in the fall of 1972. In the spring of 1973, Bill convinced Robert Wyatt to form a new version of Matching Mole that would include sax player Gary Windo and keyboard player Francis Monkman recently of Curved Air. However, following a fatal accident that involved Robert the group was canceled. The following autumn, Bill performed on two tracks from Brian Eno’s debut single album Here Come the Warm Jets.
A new version of the 801 was formed in order tour to promote the release of Listen Now in the autumn of 1977. This consisted of Phil, Bill, singer/guitarist Simon Ainley, Roxy Music drummer Paul Thompson and keyboard player David Skinner. In early 1978 work started on Phil Manzanera’s third solo album, K-Scope, which Bill partly wrote and on which he played and sang. Roxy Music then reformed to record Manifesto. Later that year Bill was invited to join Random Hold, a band formed by guitarist David Rhodes and keyboard player the late Dave Ferguson. Along with ex-Glitter Band drummer Pete Phipps they toured the UK supporting XTC and Peter Gabriel and in North America with Peter Gabriel. They recorded a double album for Polydor Records. The band broke up in the summer of 1980 and Bill left the music business to pursue his interest in politics.
