William Milroy Etheridge (born 18 March 1970) is an English politician who was an MEP in the European Parliament (MEP) for the West Midlands region. The MEP was first elected on 14th March 2014, as an UK Independence Party candidate, but he left the party in October of 2018 and was a part of the Libertarian Party. He was a part of the Brexit Party in February 2019 together with his former UKIP colleagues.

in August of 2014 as reported by The Mail on Sunday, Etheridge pointed out the manner of speech and style of Adolf Hitler during a public-speaking training session he offered for members from The UKIP young wing and highlighted the dangers it could pose. According to Etheridge the speaker had the distinction of being “the most magnetic and forceful public speaker possibly in history” who “achieved a great deal” in convincing people. A spokesperson for UKIP stated: “Bill Etheridge gave a seminar on public speaking and highlighted great speakers of the past, like Churchill, Blair, Martin Luther King and Hitler as people whose style, not content could be studied”. When asked via The Independent on Sunday, Etheridge declared she believed that “Hitler and the Nazis were monsters” and added “At no point did I endorse Hitler or anybody else”.

At the general election in May 2015, Etheridge stood as UKIP’s parliamentary candidate for Dudley North. He finished third with a vote of 9,113, triple that of the vote in 2010. At 24% of the votes cast, it also represented double the national average for UKIP.

In October 2016, Etheridge launched his bid to become leader of UKIP following Diane James’ resignation, after declaring he would refuse to back Steven Woolfe and stand himself during an interview on the BBC’s Sunday Politics. He withdrew on 25 October, and endorsed the eventual winner, Paul Nuttall.

Etheridge ran for UKIP in the local election. In 2012, he ran at the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner election for UKIP and came in fourth, with 17,563 votes (7.37 percent).

Etheridge was a member of Etheridge joined the Conservative Party in 2008. The couple, along with their partner, Star, unsuccessfully stood for Conservative contestants in Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council elections in 2010. In March of 2011, they left the Conservatives following their membership being suspended in response to complaints from party members who claimed that they were photographed in photos with knitted golliwogs posted on their Facebook profiles in protest against the use of political correctness. Their membership was re-established with in the UK Independence Party and he was unsuccessfully a UKIP campaigner in Dudley council elections of 2012 and 2011.

In 2014, as well as being elected to the European Parliament, he was also elected as a councillor for the Sedgley ward on Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council, unseating a Conservative. His wife, Star, was also elected for UKIP in the Coseley East ward. Etheridge lost his seat on Dudley MBC in the May 2018 local council elections.
