Betty Makoni is one of the most popular and richest Activist who was born on June 22, 1971 in Zimbabwe. Hazviperi Betty Makoni, a Zimbabwean woman’s rights activist who in 1999 created in 1999 the Girl Child Network, a charity that assists Zimbabwe’s children sexual abuse victims. The organization has saved nearly 35,000 young girls, and also provided guidance to more than sixty thousand girls across Zimbabwe. Makoni has two degrees from Zimbabwe’s University of Zimbabwe, and was awarded many international and national prizes. Born a stray and sexually assaulted, Makoni is the principal character for the documentary Tapestries of Hope.

Makoni was born at St Mary’s in the suburb of Chitungwiza. When she was just six, Makoni was raped at knifepoint by a shopkeeper from her community who believed that raped virgins is a sign of luck. The mother of Makoni was killed during a domestic violence attack in the year Makoni aged nine. Makoni was forced to care for her five siblings and herself through an institution called a missionary school.

Makoni was a teacher when she graduated from university. In 2000, she began working for Girl Child Network. Girl Child Network. A number of regional countries’ organizations have copied the model used by the Girl Child Network. In 2012, her autobiography, Never Again, was released. The book was released in Essex on April 13, 2013.
