The year 1977 was the time Eros Djarot contacted Hutauruk to sing the soundtrack of Badai Pasti Berlalu together with Chrisye. However, director Teguh Karaya did not like her voice and asked “whose voice is this, Kuntilanak?” after hearing the song at first. Then, when Djarot threatened to pull the album, Teguh Karaya caved the song a go after hearing the song for the first time. Hutauruk recorded the track.

Berlian Hutauruk (born 11 October 1957 located in Jakarta) is an Indonesian soprano from Batak descent. She began her career singing in the context of the sacred music of the church, she then sang on soundtracks for movies and released her first solo album. Her most well-known song is her rendition of “Badai Pasti Berlalu”, that Rolling Stone Indonesia selected as the third best Indonesian song ever in 2009.
Hutauruk’s second place finish in the pop contest of 1975 was credited with paving her way to female singers in Indonesia. Before that, the majority of female Indonesian sopranos were mezzo-sopranos as well as altos.
Hutauruk later left the spotlight, although she continued to sing in churches, wedding receptions, and company parties. In 2005, Hutauruk made a brief return to the spotlight after the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, singing “Badai Pasti Berlalu” for the victims. It was well received.
