He co-founded and is the editor of The Federalist, host of The Federalist Radio Hour, and also writes The Transom, a daily subscription newsletter for insiders of the political world. He also founded the RedState blog for the RedState group.
On March 6, 2006, Domenech had been appointed blog writer at The Washington Post, hired to contribute to the opinion pages of the newspaper from a conservative point of viewpoint. Three days after his new position the 21st of March the 21st of March, Domenech resigned his position after evidence emerged that suggested the work he wrote was copied from other sources which was originally published on The New Yorker , The Washington Post and The National Review, and numerous other publications. The Post said it did not realize that he had plagiarized when they appointed him. Jim Brady, the-then executive editor of Washingtonpost.com told reporters that he could have dismissed Domenech had he not initially made an offer to leave because of the accusations of plagiarism forced him for him to “sever the relationship.”
During the 2008 election, Domenech wrote numerous columns for Human Events and for The Washington Times. During the 2012 election, Domenech commented extensively on social and economic issues related to Occupy Wall Street for The Heritage Foundation.
In a 2010 post written for CBS, Domenech wrongly described Supreme Court Justice nominee Elena Kagan as potentially the “first openly gay justice.” He later added an addendum stating, “I have to correct my text here to say that Kagan is apparently still closeted—odd, because her female partner is rather well known in Harvard circles.” In fact, however, numerous reports confirmed that Kagan was not gay, forcing Domenech to issue a public apology to Kagan “if she is offended at all by my repetition of a Harvard rumor in a speculative blog post.”
Red America launched on March 21, 2006. However, Domenech was fired three days after in the wake of only writing six articles, following his fellow bloggers published evidence on the internet that Domenech copied his work from various journalists, including The Washington Post, The New Yorker, The National Review and the comedian P. J. O’Rourke as well as other writers and publications. O’Rourke did not believe that Domenech’s claims that the comedian had given permission to make use of his phrases: “I wouldn’t want to swear in a court of law that I never met the guy”, O’Rourke stated to The New York Times, “but I didn’t give him permission to use my words under his byline, no.” The editors of Domenech’s school newspaper, The Flat Hat, have denied claims made from Domenech that the plagiarism occurred from the fact that his editors had “inserted a passage from The New Yorker in an article without his knowledge,” adding they believed that “Mr. Domenech’s actions, if true, [were] deeply offensive.” Another instance is that Domenech copied from an article published on the front page of The Washington Post. The Washington Post, the exact newspaper he was working for. In March of 2006 National Review’s editors National Review confirmed on its blog The Corner that Domenech appeared to have copied content from at least one of the articles which he wrote for the publication.
