The double scullers lost their dominant position to the team made of Birgit Peter and Martina Schröter, who went on to win the double sculls at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. For the 1988 Olympics, Schramm instead became a member of the East German quad sculls team with Kerstin Förster, Kristina Mundt, and Jana Sorgers-Rau, and they won Olympic gold in their event.

For the 1989 World Rowing Championships in Bled, Yugoslavia, she teamed up with Sorgers-Rau in the double squad, and they won the gold medal. For the 1990 World Rowing Championships in Tasmania, Australia, Schramm once again teamed up with Boron, and they won the world championship.

Schramm was a member of her unit, the National People’s Army and was permitted to train full-time. She competed for SC Dynamo Berlin / Sportvereinigung (SV) Dynamo. Her first appearance in the international arena came at the World Rowing Junior Championships in Vichy, France, where she took home the single sculls for junior women. She was able to repeat this feat at the next Junior Championships in 1984 in Jonkoping, Sweden.

Beate Schramm (born 21 June 1966) is an German rower, and Olympic gold medallist. Between 1986 and 1991, she took home four senior world championships after having previously been a junior world champion. She took medals at the 1988 Seoul Olympics at the quad sculls race to represent East Germany, but missed the final of the A event at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics in the single sculls event , when she was competing for Germany. She was the national rowing champion six times, four occasions within East Germany and twice German champions following the unification.

Schramm also participated in Schramm also competed at the East German rowing championships. She won the championships in 1983. placed 2nd in single sculls. She also finished 3rd in coxed quadsculls (in later years, quad sculls were regarded as an event that was not coxed). The year 1985 was the time she finished second in both single sculls as well as the quad sculls. In 1986 she won the first ever national title (in the double sculls along with Sylvia Schwabe), and she placed second in both single sculls and quad sculls. The year 1987 was the time she placed 3rd in quad sculls. She was awarded another national crown in the year the year 1988 (in the quad sculls) and was also 2nd in the double sculls. She was champion of the national team for double sculls the years 1989 (with Jana Sorgers) as well as 1990 (with Kathrin Boron), and finished third in her quad sculls in 1991. She was East German national rowing champion four times.

She had her first success as a senior at the 1986 World Rowing Championships in Nottingham, United Kingdom, where she and Sylvia Schwabe became world champion in the double sculls. In October 1986, she was awarded a Patriotic Order of Merit in gold (first class) for her sporting success.
