From January to August of 2006, Spruyt consulted Wilders on his political strategy. Then, during August Spruyt announced that he was dissatisfied with the progress of the fledgling Wilders party and decided not to be a candidate for parliamentary office for the Wilders slate. Under his direction the Foundation was able to make the legacy of conservative politicians such as Ronald Reagan relevant to the Dutch political environment. To achieve this Burke Foundation advocated for Burke Foundation called for significant budget cuts, tax reductions (especially for income taxes) and the implementation of flat taxes as well as health care reform along with welfare reform. The Foundation also supported the Bush administration’s anti-terrorist campaign, called for greater defense spending, and stronger links between the United States and Europe and played a significant part during its involvement in the Dutch protest against The European Constitution in June 2005. The Foundation also offered a more philosophical and a student-centric program.
