Following the USFL was shut down in August of 1986, he continued to play for ten years playing for the Cincinnati Bengals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the National Football League, recording 10 interceptions and six fumble recovery.
After graduation, Bussey was selected in the 1st round (8th overall) of the 1984 USFL Draft by the Memphis Showboats in January 1984. The following month, Bussey was picked at the fifth round (119th overall) in the 1984 NFL Draft.
