Babacar Gaye (born 31 January 1951 in Saint Louis, Senegal) is a Senegalese Army General who served as his position as the United Nations Secretary- General’s Special Representative and head of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) until his resignation after multiple allegations of murder and sexual assaults by soldiers, including the rape of a 12-year-old girl, as well as the sexual abuse of children who were hungry from the age of 8 who were compelled to perform horrific sex-related acts for food under his direction. The General was found to specifically “abused their authority” by an independent panel. Prior to the appointment of the 16th of July, 2014, he served as his Special Rep and Director of the United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office for the Central African Republic (BINUCA).
As of 1991, the man was serving as the commander of the Senegalese group in Operation Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia located in Dhahran.
Prior to this position, he led an extensive and distinguished military career, having served, among others, as Chief of Military Region from November 1997 to May 2000.
Babacar Gaye was promoted to the rank of Brigade General in 2000, when he became Chef d’état-major général des armées (Chief of the Defence Staff) from May 2000 to August 2003 and to Divisional General (equivalent to Major General) in 2002.
He enrolled in his time at the Ecole Superieure de Guerre in Paris in 1986. He was able to graduate in 1988.
